Ueyond is the wide, wide world, very in the freshness of youth, but as they flee outward the flowers themselves betid their sad heads in dewy tears wept by the stars over mail's immortal woe. As they turn to take a last fond glance at that Paradise, forever lost to them, the crystal wail, toe garden, the foliage, rise and float toward the suusct. "Ah! who can tell how oft at eventide, when the gay west was blushing like a bride, fair ve hath, whispered in her children's ears, Beyond yon cloud will Eden reappear. So went forth the world's first fugitives.

Mar'd indeed Were their lot, yet how could they despair, when gazing mpon the burnished West, lost Eden would ever appear to the eye of Fancy, beckoning them onward aud upward. Tiie first great curse is upon us still. We toil aud contend with Mother Earth as did cur great forefathers of olden time, but as the years Toll on each generation can look back over its bloody track and nay, We at least, are oue day's march nearer home. For the ages as they wax and wane leuve behind them rich sheaves of Experience, garnered by martyrs and saes iu the very heat of the woi Id's battle. These are the real treasures of our lace.

The mbliine lessons of faith and holy trust taught us by the conflicts and sufferings of Natures noblemen may lighten the heavy burden of that doom, if we will but heed them aright. It is to the experience of past ages that we are indebted for whatever social and religious blessings we now enjoy. The true staUsmau is a student of history, for iu the records of governments that have lived and died, he ran sec and avoid the wrong and thus know and do the right. The past la sacred indeed. Prom it we draw full supplies of knowltdge, upon lis purity we build the structure of our lives, and ly its mournful record of errors we arc warned.

But although the statesman can thus justly frame the laws ot society by leaving out whattx-pirteiice condemned as useless or icked, the dividual in lowlier walks of life has greater difficulties to overcome. for the lives of men are seldom written or it their expeneuce is known us. we seldom pause in the bustle and coullieiot, of Life's sterner duties to study them as we should. So it is that we tind the same sin over and over again, even though its terrible punishment is going on before eyes daily. 1 row childhood to manhood from the cradle to thu grave, we are taught the Irutu i tin- moial hu nw is the sehool while man learns wisitttu Dally we are wr-nees of womb I'ful phenomena.

A declamation was delivered by Master Eugene Willis, who depicted in burning sentences, the terrible tenors incident to a city on fire. Wormian, a voung man of most pleasing addnrss and smooth" delivery, recited a declamation in rhyme, humorously bitting off the future prospects of the boys and girls in geuerU, and creating much amusement. A composition bv Miss Fannie Walker told about flowers, their uses, the difference between a tube rose aud a potato blossom, and asserted that when a young man was seen promeuading State street with a boquet in his button-hole, it might be inferred that hia heart was affected by Cupid's dart. But ne "Be linda," who waxed greater and greater spake to them likewise saying "Let us go into Mount Piety whereon dwells this dan sel (X) and we will slay her, together with all her followers, for we have iu our keeping many good brotbers whom we must protect or the beautiful and bewitching damsels of Mount Piety will come and capture them, and our houses will become houses of mourning and abodes of the wretched." Then they arose all of them and went over against the damsels of Mount Piety, but the damsel of Mouut Fiety knew whereof they came, and they gathered themselves together in a gn at multitude against the damsels of Mount Gaiety, and the battle weut sore against Belinda, 'or she was chief among this tribe of wicked There were among the so called brethren of this wicked people one "Bliss," who ta comely to look upon, aad whose surname was Rickey.and one Nod who was the noblest of the bole tnlie of Brotherites, and also one David who was one of the mightiest chieftains of those who played upon the harp of.

This rather antiquated structure, which has been weather beaten by the storms of maoy rainv winters, aud bleached out bv the suns of many sunny summers, and which was the first palace of justice built by Marion Couuty, is soon to assume an improved appearance. The old building, which was formerly the abode of tho Marton county blind goddess, was erected about Ish, aud was. no doubt, au imposing structure in those days. But now its glory has departed, and the voice of the eloquent attorney or bantering hamster, as he entreats defends, attacks or ridicules his opponents, is heard no more nithin its walls. Fngid aud un yielding Justice has taheii up her quarters iu a more imposing architectural pile, and grave and unbiased juries no longer occupy benches in the old building.

Messrs. G. W. Lawsou aud J. L.

Hawkins are now having the structure entirely rejuvenated. A partition has been run through the center of the building, thus dividing it into two tqual parts and the rear ends are to be extended back fourteen feet. Mr. Law-son has had the interior of the east side plastered and painted. The rooms are already let, and will soon be ready fur occupancy.

Besides several business offices, there will be a hall 20 by 3d in the second story. Mr. Hawkins is engaged fitting up the west side, which is to be occupied as a dwelling by two families, with a millinery establishment on the first floor. A handsome French indow is to be made in the second story front which will open on an elegant veranda xtendmg out to the upright pillars. The exterior will asjurue a brown stone color and things generally Will soon present au improved appearance.
