President Signs Fare Tax. End; Others Extended WASHINGTON (AP) President Kennedy signed into law Thursday a bill to extend a series of Korean War taxes but to cut off levies on train and bus tickets and halve that on air fares. The law provides for termina tion of the 10-per cent tax on rail and bus fares at midnight Nov 15, and for reduction of the air fare tax to 5 per cent at the same time. But the measure calls for con tinuation of other miscellaneous levies estimated to produce about S4.2 billion annually. Among those extended without change are imposts on alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, automobiles and their parts and accessories and on general telephone service, as well as corporate income tax rates.

(AP) A young white man, sentenced to death three years ago after being convicted of raping a Negro woman, was found innocent Thursday at hi second trial An all-white jury acquitted the defendant, Fred G. Davis, 27, after two hours of deliberation. Davis was convicted June 29, 1959, by an all-white jury that failed to recommend mercy.

This made the death sentence mandatory. Davis, then 24. was a Marine private based at the Marine air station here-. New Trial Granted Defense attorneys appealed suc cessfully to the State Supreme Court for a new trial. The high court held that news photograph ers taking pictures of the first trial interfered with the administration of justice.
