The Flathead National Forest is considering an expanded harvest of yew bark next year after a $1 million harvest this year. This year's harvest totaled about 75,000 dry pounds of bark, enough to provide taxol for 2,300 cancer patients. She married William Harms on July 12, 1929, in Wolf Point, he died in 1982. She married Gordon Steele on July 7, 1992. She worked for PayLess Drug, the Albany Police and Stokley Van Camps, all in Albany.

She also did volunteer work for several organizations, including Albany General Hospital and Albany Senior Center. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Albany and the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and dancing. She is survived by her husband; sons, Dick Harms of Oakridge, Donald W. Harms of North Bend, Gordon Steele Jr.

22, 1967 Nov. 3, 1992 OAK HARBOR, Wash. Navy Lt. Kenneth David Roberts, 25, died Nov. 3 during a flight training mission in El Centro, Calif.

He was born in Missoula, and attended schools in Bend. He graduated in 1989 from Oregon State University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. As a navy pilot he was stationed at Wid-bey Island, Naval Air Station. He married Kelly Ann Chrisman on July 20, 1989, in Salem. Survivors include his wife; parents, Ken and Diana Roberts of Bend; sisters, Suzanne Roberts of Langley, and Shelly Roberts of Corvallis; and brother, Mark of Corvallis.

He was born in Silverton and raised in Hubbard. He graduated from North Marion High School. He had lived in Salem before his illness, and worked as a teller for Commercial Bank. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Salem.

Survivors include his son, Raul P. of Wilsonville; daughter, Mia Marquez of Wilsonville; father, Agripimo of Hubbard; brothers, Alfredo of Salem and Jesus of Twin Falls, Idaho; sisters, Julia Pena and Ninez Garza, both of Newberg, Juanita Se-gundo of Dayton, Aurelia Barrera of Tempe, and Henrietta Marquez of Tigard. SJ, 111292 By Frank King The Statesman Journal DEPOE BAY A popular Vietnam veteran died early Wednesday Veterans Day when his car plunged off a 100-foot cliff at NorthPoint. The body of Michael "Tank" Harila, 45, was pulled from the smashed car about 6 p.m. A nearby resident had heard what sounded like a car crash about 7 a.m.; the car was spotted partially uncovered at low tide. Lincoln County sheriff deputies were investigating the crash.

Harila, a former U.S. Marine, returned last week from Washington, D.C., where he had visited the Vietnam Memorial for the first time. And just two day ago, he was reunited with his son, said Grade Strom, the owner of the Sea Hag Restaurant, where Harila was a bartender and his wife, Deaths elsewhere Jeff Anderson FAIRFIELD, Conn. Jeff Anderson, who coached the Eastern Connecticut State soflball team to a national title in 1990, died Wednesday. He was 33.

The cause of death was not disclosed, but Anderson had undergone surgery for testicular cancer in September and had been undergoing chemotherapy since then. A 1984 graduate of Eastern, Anderson compiled a five-year coaching record of 171-43 at the school. He led the Warriors to five regional titles, as well as the 1990 NCAA Divi sion III championship. Robert C. Forrey PRINCETON, N.J.

Robert C. Forrey, recently retired president of the New Jersey Bankers Association, died Tuesday at age 65. The cause of death was undisclosed. Forrey, who never worked as a banker himself, became public relations director of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association after college. He joined the NJBA as staff executive in 1962 and retired as the organization's president last June.

Elias Manuelidis NEW HAVEN, Conn. Dr. Elias E. Manuelidis, an internationally recognized leader in the study of viral brain infections and brain tumors, died Wednesday of a stroke. He was 74.

Manuelidis, a professor emeritus at Yale Medical School, was Yale's former head of neuropathology and a professor of neurology at the school from 1951 to 1989. He was best known for his work on the polio virus, brain tumors and a dementing illness, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. In 1976, he was part of a research team that proved Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease was caused by a slow-acting viral infection. The first proof came from experiments in which the illness was transmitted to animals by injecting them with infected human brain tissue. Success in those experiments led to similar research that raised the possibility that some cases of Alzheimer's disease may be caused by infection with a slow-acting virus.

John Marks WICHITA, Kan. John Marks, chief justice of the Supreme Council, the Romanian-American community's high court, died of a heart attack Monday. He was 60. The 13-member Supreme Council decides divorces and other points of civil law for Romanian-Americans. An estimated 1.5 million Americans are of Romanian descent.

Marks was chosen at 39 to lead the Romanian community's Midwest region. His most recent project was raising money for Romanians fleeing to Germany. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in Willamette Memorial Park. SJ, 111292 Thomas Myers Kneeland July 30, 1935 Nov. 10, 1992 TOLEDO Thomas Myers Kneeland, 57, died Tuesday. He was born in Shelton, and had been a Toledo resident since 1976.

He married Janay Kneeland on April 19, 1969, in Winnemucca, Nev. He received his master's degree from Linfield College and had been a school teacher for the past 30 years. He most recently taught at Toledo High School. He was a member of the Toledo Elks Lodge 1664 and the Masonic Lodge 124. He enjoyed golfing and woodcarving.

Survivors include his wife; son, Thorn of Germany; daughters, Inga and Noel Kneeland, both of McMinnville, and Amy Kneeland of Toledo; mother, Roberta Wagner of Shelton; brother, Miles Wagner of Yakima, sister, Andrea Egg of Beaver-ton; and three grandchildren. Wright April 17, 1933 Nov. 10, 1992 ALBANY Virginia F. Wright, 59, died Tuesday. She was born in Philadelphia and moved to Albany in 1955. She married Ira Wright on June 7, 1952, in Philadelphia.

She worked at Rainbow West Bookstore. She taught Sunday school to 3-year-olds for 36 years and directed the children's choir at Faith Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband; son, Richard of Albany; daughters, Terry Chisholm of Lebanon, and Margaret McGarry of Albany; brother, Fred Mumenthaler of Philadelphia; sisters, Mabel Chapin and Anna Welser, both of Auburndale, Edie Weingard of New Jersey, and Bobbie Harper of Coos Bay. Visiting will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Fisher mortuary.

Family members will be present from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday in the church. Interment will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

SJ, 111292 Robert Baird Desch June 10, 1905 Nov. 10, 1992 Robert Baird Desch, 87, of Salem died Tuesday. He was born in Central City, and moved to Salem in 1960. He married Williamette on Aug. 26, 1929, in Fullerton, Neb.

He was a memorial designer and owned and operated Capital Monuments for 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Salem and the Lone Tree Masonic Lodge in Central City. His hobbies included reading and woodworking. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert W. of Portland and James B.

of Salem; daughters, Williamette Shafer of Lincoln, and Lucinda Russell of Denver; brother, Seward of Denver; seven grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. Private family services will be held. She was born in Adalia, and had lived in Salem and Hillsboro before moving to Aumsville in 1986. Her husband, Herbert J. Riensche, died in 1955. She was a homemaker, and member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Stayton. Survivors include her daughters, Pauline A.

Schilling and Ruth Stokes, both of Hillsboro, and Edna Tonack of Newport; sons, Rev. Paul of Redmond, and Eugene O. of Honolulu; and 21 grandchildren. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church.

Norwood, 75, of Salem, died Tuesday. He was born in Salem, and was a lifetime Oregon resident. He served in the National Guard and the Navy during World War II. He was then superintendent of the Southern Oregon Fruit Company, and later owned and operated a supermarket in Dallas. He also raised horses and owned a farm near Jefferson.

From 1970 to 1977, he owned another supermarket in Vernonia. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was an instructor in the "55 Alive" program. He was a member of the Masons, and Keizer Elks Lodge No. 2472. He was also a member of St.

Joseph's Catholic Church. Survivors include his daughter, Carole Jane Barkhurst of Pasco, son, James C. of Houston; brother, James R. of Salem; sisters, Dorothy Brooks of Wilsonville, and Maybelle Evans of Brooks; and five grandchildren. Visiting will be from 5 to 8 p.m.

She was a motel maid. She is survived by her son, Tim Mann of Newport; brothers, Ivan of Yachats, Dale of Coos Bay, and Jerry of Florence; and sisters, Jackie Wilkinson of Ma-pleton, Judy Holt of Albany, and Patsy Cullen of Coos Bay. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bateman mortuary, Newport. Interment will be at Indian Creek Cemetery in Mapleton.

Charlene Rice, 86, died Nov. 2. She had lived in Salem for 27 years before moving to Mountain View a week prior to her death. Her husband, William N. Rice, died in 1985.

She was a secretary with Dow Chemical until her retirement. Survivors include her sister, Margaret Wilcoxon of Keizer. Services were held Monday in California. Local arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden mortuary.
