She worked on the family farm and at Salem Hospital from 1963 until retiring in 1980. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Survivors include her husband, Clyde; daughters, Virginia Fowler, Ruby Muller and Jaunita Stark, all of Salem; brother, Cline Randolph of Richville, sister, Thelma Walters of Butler, six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Restlawn Chapel.

19, 1996 McMINNVILLE Fern Wood, 88, died Thursday. Born in Binger, she graduated from college and received a master's degree in social work from the. University of Oklahoma. She worked for the Oklahoma Department of Welfare for more than 39 years. She moved to McMinnville in.

1993. She enjoyed traveling. Her husband, Bob, died in 1976. She is survived by her sister, Buena Bahner of McMinnville. Services will be at 2 p.m.

22, 1996 SILVERTON Nellie Shepherd, 92, died Sunday. Born in Tazewell, she moved to Silverton in the 1920s. She had been a nurse. She was a Jehovah's Witness and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include her sisters, Virginia Snow of Carmichael, and LoRee Gwynn of Dallas; and' brother, J.

Keizer comes The Keizer community is responding with an outpouring of support as plans shape up for the free Christmas dinner and clothing giveaway Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church. Darla Allender, O- chairwoman of the church's Coat Closet Committee, said several people have donated their time to organize and clean the clothing. While parish members have contributed most of the food and clothing, Allender said several organizations should be cited for special help.

Born in Cincinnati, she moved to Salem in 1986. She enjoyed swimming and making scrapbooks for local nursing homes and the Oregon State Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Walter. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Virgil T.

21, 1996 Terry Wallace, 34, of Salem died Saturday. She was born in Lebanon and lived in Sweet Home until moving to Salem in 1979. She graduated from McNary High School in 1981 and was a dental assistant for 10 years. She was a member of the American Dental Association and the National Rifle Association. She enjoyed needlepoint and outdoor activities.

Survivors include her father, Bill Wallace Jr. of Sweet Home; sister, Dusti Watson of Salem; grandparents, Bill Sr. and Louise Wallace and Mary Russell, all of Sweet Home; great grandmother, Florence Windom of Corvallis; and mother, Joyce Randell of Howell, Mich. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Workman Steckly mortuary, Sweet Home.

Born in Midland, S.D., he moved to Salem in 1934. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he also worked there many years. He enjoyed hunting. His wife Lorraine died in 1993.

Survivors include his sons, Craig Brokaw and Loren Erickson, both of Keizer, and Dean Erickson of Salem; daughter, Ann Knowland of Silverton; brother, Lester Honey of Keizer; seven grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the church. 'Vern' Westergaard Aug. 15, 1909 Dec. 16, 1996 WOODBURN Vernis Westergaard, 87, died Dec. 16. Born in Ross, N.D., he moved the Brooks area in 1934 and to Woodburn in 1963.

He was an onion farmer and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include his sister, Evelyn Mills, and brother, Leroy, both of Woodburn. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cornwell mortuary. Interment will be private.

Contributions: Salvation Army. Hazel D. Wirth June 25, 1904 Dec. 22, 1996 SCIO Hazel Wirth, 92, died Sunday. Born in Scio, she lived in the area all of her life.

She was a teacher at Mari Lynn school in Lyons for 40 years and belonged to the Rebecca Lodge and the Lyons Garden Club. She also was secretary of Den Cemetery. Her husband" William died in 1944. Survivors include several cousins. Services will be at 1 p.m.

Thursday Weddle mortuary, Stayton. Interment will be in the Bileyu Den Cemetery. Martin L. Vetter July 4, 1948 found Dec. 21, 1996 MOUNT ANGEL Martin Vetter was found dead Saturday, the victim of a drowning.

He was 48. Born in Silverton, he graduated from Silverton High School. He worked for NorPac Foods and moved to Mount Angel five years ago. Survivors include his son, Matthew of Salem; sister, Marcia Whitaker of Molalla; and brothers, Larry of Silverton and Dewayne of Port Orchard, Wash. Services are pending with Unger mortuary.

Contributions: Scotts Mills Fire Department. Opal Genevieve Hill Aug. 21, 1902 Dec. 20, 1996 Opal Hill, 94, of Salem died Fri- day. Born in LaHarpe, she moved to Salem in 1941.

She worked at Salem Memorial Hospital in the 1950s and 1960s. Her husband, Willis, died in 1986. Survivors include her sons, James of Salem and Charles of Beaverton; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visiting will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rigdon-Ransom mortuary.

'Elaine' Praegitzer Nov. 19, 1933 Dec. 19, 1996 DALLAS V. "Elaine" Praegitzer, 63, died Thursday at home. Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, she moved to Dallas in 1940 and graduated from high school.

Survivors include her mother, Pearl Ruggles of Dallas; daughters, Nancy Praegitzer and Kathy Praegitzer, both of Dallas; sons, Jeff Medford and Scott of Bothell, brothers, Jimmy Ruggles Arizona Bill Ruggles of Brooks; sisters, Elsie Rice of Sweet Home, Betty Bowman and Janet Stephenson, both of Dallas; and six grandchildren. She was born in Galesburg, and was raised in the Oneida, Knoxville and Galesburg areas. She became a registered nurse in 1938 and served in the Navy during World War II. She moved to the Corvallis area in 1945. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Albany. Survivors include her husband, Alford; children, Colleen Adams of Huntington Beach, Everette "Hall" Lowrie of Albany, Philip Lowrie of Kirkland, and John Lowrie of Aviona, Italy; six grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.

Wherley May 26, 1937 Dec. 21, 1996 WOODBURN Harold D. "Babe" Wherley, 59, died Saturday in Arizona. Born in Macomb, he lived in the Canby area for 22 years and in Woodburn for two years. He worked for United Airlines as a storekeeper in Portland for many years, retiring in 1991.

He also worked as a landscaper in the Canby area for 15 years. He served in the Navy from 1955-63, and he belonged to the Canby American Legion and the Elks. His first wife, Mary, died in 1988. He later married Carol, who survives. Other survivors include his sons, Jeffrey of Oregon City and Stephen pechalereia of daughter, Hubbard; Laura brothers, ElizaDon of Industry, Wendall of Table Grove, and Jim of Ross of Beloit, Lois Haney Bloomington, sisters, Peggy, Industry, Ann Coven of Peoria, Wanda Hammel of Topeka, and five grandchildren.

9, 1907 Dec. 21, 1996 EAGLE CREEK Elizabeth Bates, 89, died Saturday, Born in Hopeful, she moved to Albany in 1949. She graduated from Oregon College of Education in the 1950s and taught at Sunrise School in Albany for more than 20 years. She moved to Eagle Creek in April. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of Eastside Christian Church in Albany.

Her husband, Horace, died in 1975. Survivors include her children, Horace of Eagle Creek and Betty McCary of Mesa, brothers, William Hays of Albany, and L. H. Hays of Hopeful; sisters, Bertha Jones and Esther Connel, both of Camilla, and Maudie Lowery of Atlanta, eight grandchildren; and 20 greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m.
