David Jennings, an Oregon College of Education physicist and recipient of an Atomic Energy Commission grant, is beginning a study of radioactive iron in the South Pacific and the rate of release of the same substance from the Columbia River. Dr. Jennings said the results of his study in the Southern Hemisphere will contribute to information necessary to predict what will happen with the release of additional nuclear energy, including peacetime uses. It's suspected that most of the radioactive iron, iron isotope 55, now in the South Pacific is the product of 1962 nuclear tests conducted by the U.S. and the USSR.

"The Columbia portion of the study is to determine how quickly radioactive iron is released from the environment. The AEC is concerned, Jennings said, about the effects of radioactivity on public health. mi MARTIN'S FOODLINER JACK'S FOODLIMER 9 i til 8 1 555 1 2th St. SE 2809 Market CUUP0N VALUABLE MARTirS FOODLINER ri ORCUn'S FOODLINER 695 Wallace Rd. 4200 River Rd.
